My friend just got a 55 Rancher and it may need some carb tweaking. We went through the owners manual but did not find any info on base/factory settings. Could someone please let me know how far I back off the high and low seats to make it to the Husky stock settings.

Thanks!

Jeff

You say it may need some carb tweaking. Why? If you dont know why it seems to need tweaking, you also are unlikely to accomplish it. The owners manual with my husky 365 was pretty thorough. The approximate # of turns open is only a ballpark figure anyway, usually will basically get it to run. If you set the saw too lean on the high speed mixture, you will ruin it or greatly shorten its life , so this is a case where a little bit of knowledge can get you in trouble. We need more background information on both you and the saw to be able to point you in the right direction.

The base setting is 1 1/4 turns out for the H and L screws. Fine tune from there according to your conditions/altitude

Thank you Huskyman! Just what I needed!
I didn't want to make a huge story about this but...my friend bought the saw at Lowes, after we found a low advertised price for it. Lowes matched the price and dropped it 10% also.
He got the saw out the door for $ 278.57!!! Hell I almost bought one just cause it was a great price. Seeing we had no dealer to ask...and the manual does not give the base settings, I knew someone here would help me. I am no expert but know my way around a carb. Being it is my friends saw and not mine I just wanted to go to square one and see where it was set and go from there. Being it came from the box store and set up for who knows where, I figured better to be safe than sorry. Rocky, thanks for your input also...I like that site, great info there.
Hope everyone here on the middle eastern coast stays safe this week!!!

Hey Jeff how old is your 55?? It might need diaphrams if it is running poorly? They get bad after some years of service. There are plenty of good arborists guiding your on adjustment. So I won't even try! good Luck The hoosier!

Sharpen your chain it's a jungle out there!

55 rancher

Your 55 rancher probably has limiter caps on the carb adjustment screws. This will probably only give you about a half a turn of adjustment on each screw (unless you modify them).

I had a guy come ina nd want me to put together, start and adj the husky he had just bought from Lowes.......it was in the box.....I am not a husky dealer and when I told him I would do it for a $30 charge he went nuts.....told me I was robbing him......he accually told me he expected me to do it for free...silly people buying their chainsaws from a box store.

I`m surprised that you only asked for $30. Seems generous. Did this space program candidate explain why Lowes hadn`t assembled it or did he just run out the back door with it?

Russ

bdenny may be right, your saw may have limiter caps so it will be hard to put it way out of adjustment. Since mine has none I always forget to mention those

Just to clear things up...Huskyman and bdenny...thanks for your help. This is NOT my saw, it is a friends saw who has moved up from a older Mac. He went to a Husky dealer who wanted 349.00 for the saw. My friend went to Lowes and found the same 55 Rancher. All he did was show them a comptr's price and they matched it and beat it by 10% saving him 94.00...of which bought all the oils and extra chains. Now I know some people hate the box stores but for those who work on their own saws it does not
seem to matter. What I think matters is the fact that Husky bailed out on their dealers who made them popular in the first place. I bet that Husky follows the same wrecked path as Echo, Poulan and Mac who all went to the box store sale method.
I am not bashing Husky at all other than my opinion on the dealer issue. Yes I realize I just went nuts, but all I was after, was carb adjustments for a friends firewood saw!
Again...thanks to Huskyman, dbenny and oh yes Rockyjsquirrel.

Brian,

You are right. If I bit back a little hard...sorry.

It is all the bantering amist all the great info on the site that makes it fun, although it has been a bit crazy here as of late.
