I just picked up a 3 wheeled 1620 rayco. I noticed in the book that it has pins to release the drive wheels to roll freely. They are broke and bent on mine. I've only used it once but it was impossible to steer, the back single wheel just skids. Are you guys disengaging one drive wheel to make it steer easier? If so, looks like I need to get a new rim with a working T handle release. Thanks

 The back is the front

Try running it with the single wheel in front, still doesn't steer great but beats pushing it around.

You need to be able to disengage one wheel, otherwise she'll just push. You can add a kit to the front that will give you two wide wheels and it will steer a lot better and be more stable.

I'll have to fix at least one of the disengaging rims or buy a new rim. I'd like to be wider because it seems like it will be tippy but it only fits on the rayco trailer with single, narrow wheels. I've thougth about putting wide front end off a riding lawn mower in place of the single wheel. as well. I really haven't used it and am currently laid up from knee surgery so I'm getting ideas and input. Thanks

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, are both wheels able to engage and drive? If so 2 wheels up front doesn't make a huge difference in the way it steers I didn't think. I've never disengaged a wheel to try and drive it around, sounds like a PITA. I had a single wheel 1620 for a couple years before I got my 1625 w/2 wheels up front, they both skid around if you try to take too sharp a turn, sometimes I'll stand on the front tongue to get the wheels to grip better and turn.

You can also move the cutter head to the outside wheel side to help it steer thru the corners.

(I sure don't miss my 1625 and I LOVE my tracks on the 7015!!)

big stumps is right......you need to free wheel one of the drive wheels moving around....if you don't,, the machine will either drag or push the steering wheels,, while still going straight , reguardless on how you turn.. depending on your direction... only lock the axle on slippery hills, mud, or trying to run thru chips while grinding... ( i can't turn my 352 sharply, with the posi traction on .. just pushes the steering wheels sideways)

and like he said,, the dual tire set up,, is worth the money !!!!!
