Hello, I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post. Long story short my great uncle retired and the next day he bought a Woodmizer and unretired. This spring his 066 died and he had me take a look at it. I am a mechanic by trade and I have a lot of experience with 4 stroke small engines but not so much 2 storke short of combining multiple disposable echos, poulans, ayp etc to make 1 working one. Well the verdict is a trashed piston and jug, looks like it over heated and the rings caught the exhaust port and now here we are. The gouges in the jug are pretty deep so I think machine work to save it is out. He already bought a replacement saw after seeing what Stihl wants just for a top end kit but is not happy with the new saw. What I want to do is fix it and surprise him with it the next time I see him in September. I want to pay for it as a thanks for all he does for our family and this is where you come in. With the lack of online resources for Stihl and the fact parts are not cheap I am looking for suggestions on what parts to use and what needs to be done ontop of the top end build and prob rebuild the carb. I have seen the Meteor kits that seem to be good. I want to keep it stock and reliable so not really looking for big bore stuff. I want to stay under $400 and I am not really flush with cash so the cheaper (as long as its good) the better. The crankcase looks clean and free of debris and the con rod doesn't seem to have excessive play. Looking forward to making a rebuild thread noobie style and documenting it. I work 6 days a week so progress may be slow so Im looking to start asap. Thanks for taking the time to read this and have a nice day.
