Well after 2 years of using boards and latters to guide my csm mill I'm done with that mess.
My plan is to build steel rails put a winch on the mill and make Legs so I can drop the guide as I mill
That way I can have strait boards every pass also would like to put a log holding system under the mill so I can
resaw more then one board or cant

heres my question has any one used a drill attached to a winch to pull there cam??

I only have one picture so far

I use a hand crank operated winch with 1/4" nylon rope. This gives me a feel for how fast I need to feed the saw and allows me to back off the feed if the saw stalls. A hand operated winch requires very little effort. Nylon rope has enough stretch to allow for knots, etc.

I like your idea of built in legs and guide.
I think the problems you might encounter with a drill is either the cord is going to be a PIA or if you are going cordless, sure as crap your battery is going to die mid cut!!! Unless you really know your drill you are probably going to have a hard time controlling the rate of cut. That set up you have in the pic looks just plain bad, leaning over the mill to get at the drill/cord everywhere...
Now what PhilB has looks pretty damn slick.

Well the drill idea came about when I realized that I could not pull the winch back without cranking the handle I am planning on using a battery drill if the battery goes dead ill change it out I have seven of them I may have to build a winch like yours if it dosnt work
