Don't see Red Max mentioned much on here. I'm looking for something with more power than my little echos, and lighter than my 346. the Red Max 3800 seems to fit the profile. Anyone have experience with it? Trimmers are readily available but nobody wants to stock the saws? - Eric

I picked up a Redmax 3100 that was ported by Dan Henry early this fall. I never ran a stock 3100 but I can tell you that this modded 3800 runs pretty strong. Out of the cut rpm is 13'600. Pretty high for a reed valve top handle saw. As far as in the cut performance the saw cuts alot like my stock pre-epa Stihl 020T!

I never ran a Redmax 3800.

Here is a link to the Redmax 3800.

Eric,
Where do you live in north Idaho? I grew up in Orofino. Later, Roger.

Roger, I'm a couple hundred miles north of Orofino ( pretty area). Blanchard, about an hour north of Couer D'Alene.

Eric,
The Couer D'Alene area is very nice too. I used to fish up there all the time (Benewah lake). Later, Roger.

The 3800 Redmax is a great little saw, However for just a few dollars more I would recommend the 4000! It has better torque!

For about the same $$$$ a Dolmar PS540 (54cc) is a much better buy, with a lot more power, and a proven history.

red max puts out good stuff. before i brag onum to much .. where is redmax made..
is poulan the only saw made in the us or canada..

Japan on all current models except the G3100 (Italy) top handle.

Sad to say that of all the old American saw companies (by name only) still in business Poulan Pro (gold/black) which has twice the cylinder life, and a few more features than the and Poulan (green) is the only complete saw line made in the USA.

Echo is made in Lake Zurich, IL
The reason I inquired about the 3800 is weight. Looking for a little more power than the small echo, but lighter than the 346xp.
