Remington SL-9 recoil explosion

So I’ve recently gotten a Remington SL-9.
It ran amazingly for around a week until the E-clip decided to fall off the recoil assembly grenading the entire recoil.

It appears that the slot for the E-clip just wallowed out with age. I’ve already located another recoil, but are there any steps I can take to prevent this in the future?

I know it’s not color matched, but I’d take a usable saw over a busted one any day of the week
