In my mind I can see pros and cons to each method... Is this question a matter of preference or industry standard? I'm definitely starting out new here with cutting from the rope. I've been studying and practicing with my knots and doing some basic climbs for practice in my trees... I'm sure my first time doing a whole tree is going to be educational. haha. Any insight here appreciated!

If you can huck something off on the way up without to much aggravation then do it. Sometimes you think you can but then when the limb fall and scarfs up the trunk or buttress roots...
if you shoot a top rope then you have mobility to get to where you need to be to comfortably cut.

Thanks for the reply. So sounds like the idea is to recrotch till you're at the spot you want, then start working down. That makes sense. Thanks!

Depends on a lot of things. If the tree is clear all the way around and you can drop every thing, I like to strip it as I go up. If you have stuff under the tree and need to rope it down, you have to go up first. If it's a pruning job, I like to tie in first, so I can walk way out on limbs. Every one is different, Joe.
