Hi to everyone.

I'm just new to the site and have joined as i'm at a complete loss as to find a replacement piston and cylinder for a Solo 603 chainsaw.

If anyone can advise where i can find a replacement 56mm piston to suit the Solo 603 and/or a replacement cylinder, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've been tearing my hair out trying to find these parts. I am sure another piston from a different chainsaw manufacturer would fit, but no one seems to know any cross reference pistons that will do the job.

There are a number of other saws using 56mm pistons. If you cannot find what you need, post up the pin diameter, and some specs of pin to crown height. Worst case, you could get your jug re-plated, and use a different piston. JacobJ will probably already know what you can use, as he is the master of piston swaps. Probably best to let him respond on his own as he is very busy and his PM box is always overflowing.

Have you contacted solo themselves? They did sell straight to the public last I heard.

If there is a 603 piston and cylinder combination that's NOS, i'll purchase it now.

I can't take the stress any longer. I've been looking for 3 months and can't find anything or get any answer to getting these parts and that includes writing to Solo Germany, Solo USA, Solo Australia and Solo New Zealand as well as writing to just about every other website that deals in chainsaws.

The piston is cactus - completely beyond repair and the cylinder has a couple decent scores in it as well.

I have posted 8 photos of the piston and it's dimensions with a digital vernier caliper but i'm not sure if the moderators have approved the photos or approved the links in the post.
Hopefully they will approve the links so you can take a look at the piston dimensions.

Thank you for posting the link to the Baileys piston.
I have written to Baileys to see if the piston is indeed a replacement piston for the Solo 603 and also if they have a replacement cylinder for a Solo 603.

Also for whatever it's worth, I just did a 603 today, rebuild. Using a scored piston, it gauled up more than most I've seen through them Husqvarna Stihl and Echo. I ended up using 56 mm 660 rings They were perfect. My question also would be for you on the cylinder. Is it scored all the way up past the exhaust and intake ports? If so, you are kind of up a creek. But, if not then you might be okay. Also, I was able to find a couple Husqvarna setups... the 395 has a 56 mm piston. As well as 394. I'm not sure of their skirt lengths though. And I was able to find some bearings for the wrist pin bearing. The Husqvarna wrist pins are a millimeter larger. But you can buy a proper bearing to work for you. And then the MS660 as stated earlier has their 56 mm rings. But, the piston skirt is almost 5/16 of an inch too short. You'll Freeport like crazy.

JJ posted this = Just seen this for solo 603 piston = Thanks to Jacob J my solo 603 can throw chips again. Just wanted to give props to him for his suggestion and let anyone out there who is looking for a substitute piston know that it works. I used an aftermarket Partner 1200k piston and she runs great.
