While changing the blades on my BC1000 today, I noticed that there was an excessive buildup inside the body of the chipper in the area that houses the drum. This chipper chips almost exclusively soft wood, so I believe the buildup was of mostly sap mixed with small particles of wood. I spent almost 2 hours with a chisel, removing some layers that were almost 2 inches thick. Has anyone that chips a lot of soft wood noticed this problem and is there an easier way to clean it out? It took quite a bit of elbow grease just to break it free.
