RG from fresco

I got a RG the other day from Fresco and was wondering if the RG was supposed to be so tight on the rope going through it. I thought the idea was once your rope cam out of the pulley and hit the "snare" the RG would just drop frictionless to the end and then pull the ring out. I haven't used it in a tree yet but I wondering if I should make up new rope and ring for it. Right now it came with Blue streak and I believe it's a bit bigger than New England safety blue. ??
