both, were do you get super braid at ? i was going to order from wes spur . thanks
I got my stable braid at sherrill, they also have the super braid (made by New England) but it is more expensive.
Hopefully someone else will chime in as I only use 16 strand for natural crotch and only use the stable braid in a block so far. A previous guy I worked with had super braid and we only used it a little since we worked mainly with a crane.
What kind of loads are you going to be rigging?
I'm retiring my 1/2" 16 strand rigging rope and am looking for a replacement. Probably going with 1/2 inch 16 strand again for a general duty riggin rope.
I run 5/8ths super braid made by new england. VERY strong stuff. I've never once winced when lowering huge wood. It is overkill for most situations and in hindsight I wished I had picked up a hank or two of 16 strand 9/16ths for general duty instead of 600 feet of 5/8ths super braid. The main problem with my rope is running it through a porty can be problematic.
Blakes, why is it problematic? does it twist up?
Yeah, if you can get it to run at all. I had a thread about it awhile back. If you wrap that large of a super braid the conventional way even on the biggest porty sherrill offers you still have to force feed it through. I just thread it through the top loop before going up the tree and it works much better. Still twists though.
Blakes, I'm glad that technique helped you. I was wondering if you had a chance to use it.
