I have an 028 Super that has an .050 Oregon bar and chain on it. The saw has a rim sprocket. I want to change over to a .063 Stihl bar and chain so that I can share bar and chains with my 260 Pro and 024 Super.

The question is, can I use the same rim sprocket for .063 chain?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The rim does not care about guage, only pitch. Use your current sprocket if it's in good shape. Honestly though , I'd keep the .050 and lose the .063.....chain is easier to find in .050.

Would you replace a piston and use the old rings? The rim sprocket is probly $4-5. As long as you are at it I would also replace the clutch bearing and clean and inspect the clutch parts. Just my humble opinion, but the clutch, bearing, sproket, bar and chain get the wear and tear.

Well those parts ride on the crankshaft, might as well throw a new one of those in there too. The question was whether or not the sprocket was the same for .050 and .063. I answered it without telling the man to rebuild his saw.
