over pricing on parts born co. austrial sent to malisa sent back to usa =big bucks on parts $645 per berring for drum drum was $5500 come on what co. hmmmmm ban

Sorry, This is what I meant. I needed to buy main drum bearings for my chipper and drum. $645 each bearing and $5500 for the drum. I was searching for the manufacturer to find a better rate to eliminate the middle man mark-up. In my search, I found that the parts are made in Australia and Malasia thus the mark-up. The bearings can be purchased at a local store for $135 but the drum cannot. I just can't justify the mark-up.

The first post was written in a new dialect "Hip-Hop Arbolese" :)

Markup is normal. A part of business. You mark up your services don't you?

What kind of chipper?

Why do you need a new head? You'd be surprised what a good machine shop can repair.

HipHop, I agree with what Tom has stated. In addition-You don't have to justify the mark up-just decide what you are going to buy and from whom.

I agree with Tom too. Just make sure its a good machine shop. Last year, our shaft broke in our chipper. Took it to one machine shop who told us for three days they were working on it, even overtime hours. Had a gut feeling so I drove out there, they hadn't turned one bolt on the chipper! Took it to another machine shop, he quoted me $500, when I went to pick it up, he only charged me $400, said it didn't take as long as he thought it would've (he gained a lifetime customer and alot of good word of mouth referrals). Our bearings were $225 each to replace.
