What a group here   : ask and ye receives advice. So I tried both new chains boring (plunge cutting) two Red Maples each about 18" DBH, no core rot.
Both the Saw Witch's partner (Msr Saw Troll):notrolls2: and Andy were correct on most things.
1. The "official" word from Stihl does sound like legal dept blather. The RMC3 chain bored smooth and fast entering and "backcutting" exiting the cut. They said "...RMC3 is NOT for boring since it is a 'safety' chain..."
2. The new RS also bored fast in a second similar tree, not as smooth and vibration-free as the RMC3. Slightly more vibes beginning the bore with the RS.
3. Both new virgin  chains cut faster in the felling cuts as well as bucking up the trees than my well used two RS chains that are about 1/3 original size teeth. Time to demote them for flush stump ground work.
BTW: that so-called safety RMC3 moved like a champ thru the wood. The .325 chains are on a MS260 muffler modded (more thx to advice here:greenchainsaw: ), 16" .063 bar.

I used the same 2 chains on my 026 Pro, and was pretty impressed with the low kickback chain performance wise. I had been hearing that Stihl has been making gains in the safety chain cutting quality.
