wondered if anyone had comments yay or nay on the rockman hardhat in baileys?sure seems like it would be nice to eliminate fogging and possibly reduce getting slapped in the face with debris some, all comments welcome

It's great! I'm testing several helmets and so far the Rockman is coming out on top. I like the vents for cooling. There are other technical aspects that make it an exceptional piece of PPE.

So far, it's the one I choose to wear out in the forest.

good deal buddhakat, well im gonna buy one,all the tin cap miner guys are gonna laugh but maybe it will keep my lips from gettin split! !:hmm3grin2orange:thnx for input

I tell you what... I had a full brim aluminum turtle save my hide once. A peckerpole swing out'a nowhere and whipped me right down the middle of my brain pan! Made an imprint of the tree in the hat, and broke the basket... Drove me down to my knees too!

Not sure I'd trust plastic to do the same? :dunno:

Actually, the plastic offers superior protection to aluminum, however, the real protection comes from the harness that separates the helmet from the shell. During an impact the patented harness system inside the Rockman's is designed to absorb and disperse the impact energy. Their engineers used the same theory that's employed in Formula One racing. They have a 12 point harness that sort of breaks away to absorb the energy, no matter where the impact comes from. I don't think there is anything that equals it as far as safety is concerned, although I do want to say that all of the helmets I tested have something similar in their harness'.

Here's the explanation from the Rockman website: DeFormaTecTM system which reacts instantly to absorb impact energy before it can reach the wearer. 12 DeFormaTec connectors spaced evenly around the helmet interior ensure that the System works even if the impact strikes offcentre.

However, ANYTHING is better than nothing!

plastic cracks and aluminum dents...
Not true. Depends on the type of plastic. Aluminum punctures and tears. None of these are bullet proof, just designed to dissipate enough energy from an impact to prevent a fatality or minimize injury.

The internal basket broke at the mounting points, which absorbed forces... The turtle also bent, and did not crack... Again, absorbing forces. I used that thing the rest of the season... Just kind of looked funny. :p

Not sure the plastic one could absorb the same amount of force?.. But it probably does. I'm sure they tested the crap out them for impact.

plastic or metal!

To each their own, they say the plastic is just as strong, I don't believe it I''ll keep wearing my full brim, alluminum, pa's hand me down hardhat. If You get hit hard enough to demolish that metal hat I doubt the rest of you would be intact enough to matter much, I feel the alluminum keeps my head cooler in the summer, and makes a better impression when I throw it (just joking about the throwing) All that P.P.E is great on those systems but would drive me nuts. My hardhat, a few pair of earplugs, and lightly tinted safety glasses is all I like to use for my upper body, I have never seen a point in a full shield for most the work I have done, I do wear eye protection, I was working with a guy years ago that lost an eye to a wedge shattering as he drove it in ( bad deal a guy down and in need of help with about a 5ft backleaning fir right at the point of coming over) Anyway that's my two cents.

I'm too much of a caveman for system hats to last very long. I toss my hat into the back of the truck at the end of the day. Always, so I broke a hat or two. No more. I had a Skullbucket for awhile but the shell is too small for my brainy head. Now I wear a Bullard wildland firefighting full brim hardhat like I have in the past. The new style is very strong and fits better than any other hardhat. I have a mesh shield that goes on it sometimes but I always wear Rx safety glasses anyway.

We get rockman hats, muffs and visors here in NZ (although I guess they might be different), and what I'll say, is that the earmuffs are the worst I've ever used, and I don't like the harness inside the hat. That's from new!

I prefer the Husqvarna/Jonsered hats and muffs, I just have to take off the offending stickers. :chainsaw:
