has anybody tried this thing? it looks great but one issue i have not found adressed is how much work is it to re possition your rope? do you have to pull your entire rope though every time and slide this thing back to you ? the videos ive seen are from the inventor and are set up in the perfect situation, my life rarely has anything close to perfect situations. other than that frictionless limb walking yes please

what exactly do exactly mean "re possition" are you talking about changeing you tie in point? or just climbing through different crotch to redirect your anchor point so you can work easly in a different part of the tree? i have used wooden versions of the rope wrench and its quickly becoming my chosen methoid of climbing, i havnt had any issues involving having to repossition the tie in point, if i do i lanyard in to the tree and have my ground guy untie my anchor point repossition it where i want it and have the ground guy anchor it back off. never have to untie your friction hitch or take the rope wrench off eather. hope this helps, you should definetly give one a try its awsome not haveing to worry about all the added friction of wraping around branches when climbing DRT.

i never realy thought of untieing that end of the rope i was picureing pulling the other hundred feet of rope over and around everything, is the wooden version a home made thing, ive heard of this but never seen a wood one, the thing is super simple i could probably make a metal on myself, ah i cant keep up with all the new climbing methods

yeah they are very simple, go to google images and just type in rope wrench, you can make them in any sort of shape and size just have to get the amount of friction correct for your climbing style, but it has changed the way i prune in large trees when i will be redirecting a lot, consistant friction is awsome! good luck with making one! the nice thing is that evein if a rope wrench were to fail no big deal because its not going to make you plumet to the ground happy new years!

I've used the wrench in training to work out the trouble situations before the real deal. Yes you have to pull the running end of the rope with you. So rope length selection is a forethought before you go up. However, the advantage you gain if you work the whole tree from one high point directional is better than the friction you would get from just one redirect on drt. Not to mention if you have to spin or redirect mutiple times, you will never be able to accomplish this on drt. I haven't tried this, but Ive seen vid of the climber carring a small rope bag on back or saddle to pull the running rope from. This way the tail will stay clear of falling limbs Etc.
