Hey guys, concerning the RPM on self propelled grinders, would it be fair to say that the higher the RPM, the finer the chips become? The grinder I'm going to buy has 2600 RPM on a 14" cutter wheel with a 20 horsepower engine. This sounds like a mighty number for a self propelled machine. :)

Cutter wheel speed probably does have an effect upon chip size but there are so many other factors that it kinda gets lost in the mix. The single greatest factor in chip size seems to be species. (Assuming green wood-decomposition changes everything.) The next big factor is tooth sharpness. The machine you describe should work well but it is gonna throw all sizes of chips.:)
