There's no forum like this for the UK, so can any of you guys enlighten a Brit?
I have an old Sachs Dolmar 109 in pretty good condition, but when I've asked about spares for this, get told they aren't available. BUT, according to what I can find out, the Makita dcs430 looks to be an almost exact clone of the Sachs, and spares for that are available.
Can anyone confirm or deny that these two saws are actually pretty much one and the same?

I would think so, Makita is still Dolmar, its still made in the same German factory, there just blue now instead of orange.

Thanks for reply. From what I can make out, it's actually a bit more complex than that; one of our local places is now selling Dolmar-branded orange-cased saws, and says that the Dolmar name has been "spun out" by Makita's parent Tanaka. The saws he's selling look different from the previous Makita ones, so I don't know where they are actually made, or by whom.
But this dealer claims he can't get spares for the earlier models.
All very confusing for the casual user!

You might want to post this question in the chainsaw forum. This is the milling forum. I know the description is confusing as it says:

Milling & Saw Mills
Discuss Chain saw & Portable saw mills here.

but it's talking about chainsaw mills.

Plenty of people in here know chainsaw stuff but MANY more in the chainsaw forum know MUCH more and many of them don't visit this part of the site.
