After searching through the posts here in the forum it looks like a cylinder can be cleaned up with muriatic acid. This is just aluminum transfer from a piston that I'm talking about here.

How do you apply the acid to the cylinder? Use a Q-tip and just smear it around? Will the Q-tip absorb the aluminum as it melts? How do you clean the acid out of the cylinder once you've got the aluminum transfer taken care of? Will soap and water do it, or do you need some mix of baking soda and water?

As always, thanks for the help!

Yes, use a q-tip, and yes, baking soda wash work fine. A suitably gloved finger and scotchbrite to work at the deposit will help the acid do its job.

Thanks for the responses guys, I really appreciate it. Haywood - I've been following your threads about your 346xp. Really informative info in them. I picked up a 346xp a month or so ago, nice saw....my first Husky. I despise that external clutch setup, but other than that it's not too bad. I see you're from KY as well, which part of the state? I'm from Northeast KY.
