I just bought another saw. My saws are stored in our woodworking shop where there is a lot of sawdust and whatnot, despite having a vac system throughout.

My smaller saw we keep in a stihl case in order to not get plugged up with sawdust. My new saw is a 460 with a 25" bar. I bought a case, but the dealer didnt have one that would fit a 25" bar.

So the way it sits, the powerhead is inside the case, and the bar sticks out, although this protects it all while its in the shop, the bar is exposed while riding in the truck or the tractor bucket or whatnot.

It not a MAJOR deal, but I would like to avoid this.

So far, searching has come up with nothing, does stihl make a bar case large enough to accommodate a 25" bar?

This is the case I have.

Stihl should have one to fit a 25 inch bar. Just ask your dealer to order the correct length bar scabbard for your saw/bar.

For my 385xp, which no one makes a saw case for. I am going to buy a large plastic bin from (B)lowes and mod it to fit. I am thinking about getting one large enough to fit the powerhead and some chains plus tools & spare parts. I am going to scrounge some plastic pieces to make dividers and pop rivet them in place.

I will buy two of these(http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=17237&catID=) to hold the bar with a chain on it.

Cheap and easy to make! LOL More money for beer! :monkey:

I thought the back of my truck was a saw case.
I do have bar covers on them though.

Till some joker walks off with your saw(s)! Put a lease on those puppy or they run off!

Last weekend, me and my father stopped for some breakfast burritos in santa fe. Some dillweed was scoping out are saws in the bed of my fathers truck. I ran outside and made eye contact with the moron. He just drove off...

In a tupperware plastic bin, a saw might now draw as much attention.

I know, stencil "CHICKEN FEED" on it! LOL :monkey:

I use a small (medium?) size rubbermaid truck box. It's not ideal but it works. I really only use when I'm transporting my 385 and 395 for long distances. The disadvantage to this box is you have to remove the bar from the saw. The advantage is I can put 2 powerheads in it (without bars) and the the 2 bars and some small items as well. Its pretty sturdy, and the shape lets it pack well if your are loading the truck or SUV. I'll try to post some pics of it.

STIHL sells those multi-part bar scabbards for longer bars that are a p.i.t.a. Keep falling apart. Tried gluing them tpgether, sewing them together with wire, etc.

Finally bought a bunch of single piece Husqvarna scabbards. Still orange. Jonsered sells them in red. They don't attach to the STIHL cases but stay in place. About $7 - 8 each.

I like the clamshell chain protectors shown above (http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=17237&catID=), but the single piece sleeve type scabbards keep more crud off the bar and more oil off everything else. Over time, they wear out unless you are very careful putting them on or taking them off the bars - get scraped by the cutters.d

We don't have much problem with thief's, like in the more populated areas, unless it's tourist season. They are on a leash though, more or less. I have had one saw lifted in the last 25 years, and it happened at the worst possible time. I stopped at the bar to see if my cutting partner wanted to work the next day (Saturday). In and out in 5 minutes, didn't even have a beer. Evidently the thief was in and out in less than 5 minutes. He probably got a case of beer for that 2100xp.
