I have a McCulloch 3216 16" gas chain saw.I need to get a new chain and went to "Wal-Mart"and the chains there did not list any McCulloch models for application. Will any 16" chain fit or do I need to get one specifically for mine?

You most likely have 3/8 low profile chain. But you need to know exactly how many links are in your chain. Different brand saws can have a different number of links for the same size bar.
Count the links on your chain. You should have about 54 links. With the link count, you can pick up a chain just about anywhere if you read the packages and make sure you have the same size and length.

I will spare you my opinion on McCoughup saws, you probably don't wanna hear that tonight. :D

Hey Jmac, the best thing do is remove the chain from the saw and match the # of drive links and pitch. To make things easy for you, take the bar and chain to any saw dealer and they will fix you up. Dont take the saw to work though or those inmates will be buckin holes in the wall to make good their escape.

there's a couple of good reasons to see a dealer for a new chain; the chainsaw chain sold in big-box stores is low-quality stuff with an outdated form of "safety" depth guages. This chain is difficult to sharpen, difficult to keep sharp, and is generally meant to prevent the store , the manufacturers, etc, from getting sued should you chop your arms and legs off. They assume that since the saw will be such a pain in the @ss to cut with, you'll seldom use it...

The dealer's shop is a fun place; he has all sorts of neat stuff there to drool over, like brand new high-quality chain saws, grass trimmers, you name it. A really high-quality dealer is quite happy to sell you a small part like a replacement chain for your little Mac, because it's his opportunity to become familiar with you and show you all the wonderful things he has at his store.

I take my wife shopping once in a while on the weekends...we hit a few stores, I sneak off to drool over the chain saws, skid-steers, and garden tractors, and then we have a sandwich and a coffee. If I couldn't go to the chainsaw store, i wouldn't go.
