I use my saws for bucking up logs 90% of the time...is there any real advantage to put bigger dawgs on or a out side set of dawgs onto the saw just for bucking ??? any thoughts ??

the main advantages are increased leverage and grip in thick barked trees. primarily a west coast thing. some saws with a west coast version have higher output oil pumps also, prime examples being the full wrap west coast Stihl 044 and 046, along with their MS model counterparts. for the right application aftermarket large dogs can be a good upgrade.

did a search

i did a search for the topic...still is large dawgs and or a second set of dawgs serve any good purpous with out thick bark...but rather just for bucking logs...will it make my day any better ??

What kind of Ash do you have that has bark that makes sawing hard? I've cut a lot of Ash in my day and never once had an issue with the bark.

Its.....Ummm....Ash.

Big deep loose bark. Breaks free when trying to roll a round to the splitter and goes flying over your head.

Ill post a pic of some tomorrow.

Yep, I have only lucked into two ash trees (one of my own) and both had that thick, loose bark. Didn't really have a problem cutting them with standard dogs though. I have no idea what 'type' of ash they were.

Heres some pics of my big fat Ash. Note the penny and sneaker in pics for size reference.

So, mabye its only when your ash gets real big that the surface becomes all loose and puckery and is hard to get ahold of. Mabye you havent incountered someone with a really large Ash?

I prefer to stay away from people wanting me to touch their large Ash for this very reason. Now a small Ash with a nice tight feel to it, Ill handle one of these all day long.

Yes, I really love a nice tight Ash.

What are those little green things growing out of the bark? They look like Venus Fly Traps.
Do you have your saws sharpened so they need a lot of pushing to make them cut? That bark isn't that deeply furrowed that it would be a problem. Other that the carnivorous plants growing out of the cracks, it looks just like our Ash trees.
Maybe your just being a big Ash hole.
