Saw shopping

Well I sold my Super Duty yesterday so I’m saw shopping now. I’m gonna go check out a used Makita 6100 that was in the tool rental program. They’re asking $315 for it. Other than that I’m eyeing 4 new saws locally. I have a dealer pretty much next door who sells and services the Husqvarna and Echo. but there are several Stihl dealers within 10-60 minute drive of me in every direction.

i like the idea of the dual piston rings on the Stihl over the single on the Husky. I’ve always been a Stihl guy but I’ve also always been the guy who buys the best product over brand name.

Nix the 362, and consider the 400c. The 400 is an upgraded 362 and only a few coins extra.

My dad loves his 590 and it’s been pretty reliable. He did have to take it in for warranty work once snd i was surprised that even for warranty work, there was a set fee of some sort. That seems strange.

Just found the 400c at one of my lical shops. They want $899 with 20” B/C

I got mine $800, no B&C. I gots plenty of bars and chains, so that worked out well for me. If you are in the same situation, $800 is the target.

I need a professional saw in the 60cc class. I always buy professional quality tools only.

Same here. I rarely use use my miter saw, but still I had to have a Dewalt. Quality tools last a lifetime, whereas the junk falls apart to fast and they you have to buy twice.

All them saws will work really well. Pick the one that makes ya the happiest.

Hard to pass up a 562 IMO.

If you need a pro 60cc saw id recomend getting the 572 its everything the 562 wants to be and then some.
A 461 would also be a amazing saw to fill a 60cc pro saw Position

The 362 is a little slow with a 24" bar fully buried. With the oiler turned up all the way it's less oil than I'd like. 20" is a better match for that saw. I bought mine with a 24" bar but put an 18 on it and now only use the 24 as a backup to larger saws like if I get one stuck. The 400 might handle 24" better. It's possible to modify or replace the oil pump on the 362 or 400 to get more output.

The more I really think about it, my 261cm handled most all of my cutting needs. I guess I just figured for a one saw plan, a 60cc would be better. But my dad has a 60cc with a 24” bar if I ever really needed to just borrow it for a day.
so I’m considering just going and getting either the 261cm today or the 550xp II.
I loved my 261 and am considering changing it up this time and trying out the 550xp. Have plenty of dealer support for both. But I also keep considering the Echo 620p that’s cheaper than both the 261 and 550. Ugh it’s a hard decision…

I know the 362 has two piston rings verses the one ring on the husky 562. Is it the same for the 261 vs 550?

Then wait. Either way, once purchased, the stretch to make it happen will quickly be forgotten. ETA to being forgotten is the time til making the first cut, i.e. the time it takes to drive home.

I can only tell you the 261 has 2 rings. Don't see many Husky's here. First one in years came yesterday they ran straight gas.
