Finally getting around to the muffler mod and carb swap on my 260. Carb swap went fine, haven't got to the muffler yet gotta go get some wood. I started the saw to adjust the idle, but the saw won't turn off when moving the switch to 'stop' (I have to turn the idle down to get it to quit). I wiggled the wires and it worked twice, but now nothing. Only have had the saw about 2.5 years, never abused, well taken care of. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

Yep, the spring behind the cutoff switch has ridden up and is not making contact the way it should. Take off your air filter cover and air filter, then operate the switch up and down and you will see what is happening. Do two things, put a little lubricant on the plastic switch area and either stretch or compress that brass spring until the switch operates properly again. Another possibility is the wire has just worked itself too far out towards the flywheel side and needs to be pushed back in. Next possibility is there is too much dirt in the contact area and it needs to be cleaned. Good luck. Tom

"I wiggled the wires and it worked twice, but now nothing"

Yep, a loose wire  The wire with the contact that attaches to the control rod was loose (when rotated contacts the metal spring to stop the engine). Thanks guys. Gotta git.
