Has anyone ever used a saw for a step? I did this real quick the other day and the guys I was with looked at me like I had lost my mind. Sink an old bar in 1/2 to 3/4 of the way in jam a stick under the bar right at the power head and then climb on and go to work. For me this works well instead of cutting a board to step on just to get to a standing spot, or to work on some things that won't take long and when you seem to be moving alot around the butt.

So just curious if anyone else does this?

thats funny, never heard of that. i'm surpised a bar can support someone. i do the standard bore a slot, rip a plank and tighten it up with a wedge.

Jam a stick under the bar right at the power head for support and it is suprisingly strong. Not like your jumping up and down or nothing. Like I said an old set up just incase you bend the bar beyond bending back. Boards and wedges work good I just do this from time to time on some stuff, if I'm gonna be there a while I will use a board then. To keep from slipping you just have to hold a foot against the butt and the other slid back against the head. The old timers I learned under did this all the time and it seems to work pretty well. Like I said I was just curious.

Owl, aren't you a giant?

Jasha...This would be a great test for those Oregon Lightweight bars you like so much. Better bring an extra. Or two.

And yeah, I've seen it done but that was more than a few years ago. Back then bars were stout enough to use them for peeler bars.

RandyMac knows about peeler bars...every kid in Humboldt County was issued one as soon as he was big enough to drag it. :)

See? The GTG hasn't even started yet but the tall tales have.

That's an interesting method, hadn't thought of that one. I typically just rip a board too. I have used saplings by cutting a notch in the tree and sticking the sapling in the notch. Works well too.
