My cutter wheel slowly bleeds downward, I changed the up/down cylinder but it still does it. Has anyone else had this problem, please help!

There should be a holding valve block on the cyl. Hoses somewhere. What it does is make it so the head won't move up or down until let's say 500 psi is built up in the line. I have not seen a Vermeer track unit in years but Carlton and bandit both use them. The cartridge may have a piece of dirt in it or may be out of adjustment. On the valve there will be a cartridge screwed into it with a Allen screw and a jam nut on the end of it. You can loosen the nut and turn the screw all the way in and out ( remember the original position) and the put it back where it was. Try the machine and if it still bleeds down try turning the screw in or out alittle bit at a time untill the head stays put but still functions correctly.

Vermeer told me the same thing, but they can't find it! Vermeer has had my machine for a month now trying to figure this out and a track that is binding up. Is there professionals at the vermeer you deal with?

There is a valve body with electric coils on it mounted to the hydraulic tank that controls the head movement. It is probably one of the steel cores(don't know the offical name for them, look in your book) that are in the valve body.

We actually don't work on Vermeer. I was just saying what bandit and carlton use. My local Vermeer dealer I have not dealt with for shop repair only parts calls. Have you tried calling the Vermeer factory?

I haven't, that is a good idea though, will they actually advise me over the phone though?

They should if you tell them that your dealer has had it for a month and cant figure it out. they should want to get it fixed asap. just tell them what you have replaced and what it is doing and they should be able to point you in the right direction. I am sure this is not the first time this has happened. they most likely have seen everything that can fail and have a fix for it.

Good Luck.

The track that is binding is most likley the nylon strips (2 Ea.on each side) that the tracks slide on. They are bolted on to the unit with 3/8" bolts. As the slides wear the bolt heads begin to be exposed and hang up on the tracks. Jack up the side thats binding, loosen the track and inspect the slides( there on the bottom ) if the slides are worn down to the bolt heads replace them.

I think you are right on the tracks! They were gonna fix that with the bleed off but haven't got to it yet!!! I have been stuck with my little 352 all this time, ahhhh....
