yesterday one of my belt from the motor to the jackshaft broke and i need to replace it. im used to cars and such where there is a tension-er and what not can anyone walk me through how to remove and install the two v belts?

I could be wrong but there should be something in the manual to help you out. I will try to walk you through it just in case there isn't.

I am assuming (since you know there are 2 belts) that you have the cover off. If not just take the 4 or 5 bolts out and it slides off.

Get two 9/16" wrenches. You will see 4 bolts that are under the motor that hold the plate under the motor to the "body" of the machine. Loosen all 4 bolts.

On each side of the motor (front and back when looking from the cutting wheel) there is a long bolt that you can loosen with a 1/2" wrench. Loosen the large nut first with (I believe) a 3/4" wrench. Loosen the bolt on the cutter wheel side a lot. You need to be able to get the new belts on.

Now slide the engine towards the cutting wheel. Put on the new belts and get them fairly snug. They are going to stretch right away anyways. I try to replace them in pairs so they are the same length.

Installation is the reverse of removal. If I can be more help don't hesitate to ask.

Awesome man thanks i wasn't even thinking about the motor moving to make slack... now, what it the easiest way to get the belt to the hydraulic pump off, so i can get the new belts on. i feel if i move the motor towards to controls to put the hydraulic pump belt back on i would would damage the drive belts... or may there is a way to leave that belt on? im not sure i appreciate your help so far thanks a bunch!

Oh ya, forgot about that. :)

Take the cover off (which I assume you have already done). Behind the belt there are 3 or 4 bolts (I believe 3/4") that you loosen and the whole part the hydraulic pump is mounted to will slide. Slide it towards the cutting wheel to loosen it and slide it the other way to tighten it. I just use a pry bar to hold it tight then tighten the bolts back up.

Hope that helps. :)

Let me pass on this tip when tensioning the drivebelts.. Follow the Vermeer recommended procedure & settings,...do not overtighten the belts. One of the long-range problems you'll have if they are consistently overtightened ,is it causes accelerated wear on the crankcase /crankshaft bore. This will cause oil leakage and early engine replacement..... Ask me how I know!!!
Invest in a belt gauge (Gates makes a good one) ....
