About 250 hours on the new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and resurfaced flywheel and suddenly today, I went to disengage the clutch to move chips and it kept spinning. I turned it off and felt the cutter wheel didn't want to spin (clutch was engaged), yet it turned right back on with cutter wheel spinning immediately. Anything helps?

Pivot pin for the Engagement finger on the pressure plate broke. If you have a clutch rebuilder near you he can replace the pin inexspensivly. Vermeer will be glad to sell you a new pressure plate at big dollars. The clutch is the same one used in International Scouts years ago and any good clutch guy can fix it cheap, By the way once you have pulled it the first time, it only takes about 20 minutes to get it out. PS pull the clutch inspection plate from the Bell Housing and you should be able to see what I am talking about. There are 3 fingers that disengage the pressure plate 2 will be tight and one will be loose.

You helped me with this the first time, then I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and resurfaced the flywheel. Ran it 200 or so hours and all at once it is locked in gear yesterday. Last time when the finger was loose, it slowly just walked. When the machine is off, you can't spin the cutter wheel, almost 100% engaged?

sc50tx clutch

So I got in there today, one of the fingers were loose. There is a leak of some sort, I can't tell if it is engine oil from the rear main or gear oil from the upper gearbox? It smells pungent, yet I can't tell if it just smells that way because of being so close to the clutch?

If its a rear main seal the bulk of the oil will be comming from the engine side of the flywheel. If its coming from the gear box the bulk of the oil will be on the gear box side of the pressure plate. Look at the inside of the bell housing to see where the oil is being slung from. Good luck

It is definitely from the gearbox side, I just changed that seal with the clutch, I wonder what I did wrong?

All it takes is a bit of a bur or a wiggly bearing to wipe out a dust cover or a outer seal , I have a 352 that leaks like a siv if we overfill the box , on the other hand any oil on the clutch can glaze it causing it to be sticky of sort and grease or heavy oil can damage a clutch plate over time !
