First use a layout fluid and spray the area you want to scribe a pattern on.
(You can get layout fluid at most welding supply stores).
Let dry.
Since it is impossible to get a compass style scriber in a cylinder. you have to think small.

What I use is a pair of forceps and .032" safty wire, make a horse shoe out of a small piece of wire and open it it the measurement you want.
making sure one end is longer then the other.
then follow the line or port parallel as you scribe.

Great post

Now I get the concept with the wire and it looks good,,, now for widening the port... if you are scribing the vertical line based on the intake port and trying to stay, inside the .020 magic # for piston ring fixing pins do you just freehand a scribe from where the original ports new height scribe mark stops then over to the vertical line??? tried to rep ya but I'm toast

Yes you got the Idea, You could take your scrib and pivot it into the vertical line. to make a radious, you dont want to end up with stright angles. in your corners. keep them rounded. this way your ring has less of a chance of breaking, try to copy what the manufacture made.

Unhhh Hunhhhh

I'll put some in your care package, Did not get it off, Sorry , got caught up in hauling trucks to the scrap yard and the P.O. closes at 12. the other past two days I was only thinking about my eye getting better.

I really appreciate it,,, Hows the THALL donor Husky Runnin?????

Great,

Here is something else I am sending you, All it is, Is a 1/4" rod and I cut a slot in it with a cut off wheel, Then put a piece of scotch brite in it.

Put it in your die grinder and use it after you are done grinding and sanding your ports.
This will polish up you ports fast. (Die grinder not included).
