A couple of updates:

For Thanksgiving I did the green bean casserole in the pumpkin in the cast iron dutch oven all cooked with a wood fire outside. Roasting the pumpkin for about an hour before adding the green bean casserole seems to be the key to getting the punkin done.

On Nov. 5th my colon perforated (while waiting for scheduling surgery to remove a section with a cancer) (what I call a colon-disconnectomy). Emergency surgery and a week in hospital. Thankful for skilled ER team and the whole hospital care ( and all support members that keep everything working) team: nurses, PAs, student nurses who are not turned off by dealing with ostomy bags (stinky and poopy) who will be doing this work in the future, and everyone else who kept me going, and my family for their support. Meeting with oncologist next week; will see what they say about my future.

Re: Dealing with estates and how sometimes it doesn't go well: My parents put their assets, including various parcels of farmland, into trusts set up to provide income for the four of us siblings until the last of us dies, at which point the trusts terminate and whatever is left is distributed to our children. Up until a couple of years ago, we probably all expected we would be living into our nineties; our parents lived to 91 and 93, three grandparents into their nineties. We currently range from 70 to 75. We don't do drama.

Glad to hear your medical issue got caught in time. I have a friend that had a minor pinhole leak in his intestine that kept getting him sick for almost 2 years. The doctors finally went in on an exploratory surgery and found the problem. That was back in the early 90's. He is still alive and kicking today.
 
The deer are visiting my wood cutting area daily now. There were no fresh tracks yesterday morning. I keep stepping on their tracks on my logging road to hide them. These are from this morning. Not sure if the paw print is a dog or a coyote. I hope it is not a dog. Around here hunters don't take kindly to dogs running deer.

Hope all y'all muricans had a good Thanksgiving. Here in Canada, winter showed up. I hit the firewood gym this morning and carried up better than 3/4 facecord and stacked it next to the door adjacent the stove. We are hosting an international student from Australia. Her and a friend are out having their first snowball fight!

I'm guessing that's a pellet grill? How big a bird, what temp and how long?

Mine took unusually long this year. I do indirect smoking like yours using charcoal and Cherry wood chips. This year I held the dome temp around 200 F instead of 250 F. 16# bird took 6 hrs to get to 155 F internal temp. Had to finish it off 1 hr in the oven.

A friend's stepdad, who had a commercial construction co, called in separately each of the beneficiaries to his estate, and told them what they would get when he passes. He didn't want any bickering.
 
Had this distraction going on for 20+ minutes while I was working outside this afternoon. They worked their way out of my view so I managed to finish up before it was totally dark. As I was cleaning up I noticed them down the street in a neighbor’s front yard. They were where I was waiting for the 8 point to come out a few weeks ago… the one that bedded down.

200 is way to low I keep my smoker between 225-275 and that’s at the grate not the dome . I don’t even have a thermo in the dome . I use a Thermopen brand dot with an air temp probe. But I have a smoker on a trailer so it’s pretty large . Two 12 pound birds took a little over 5 hours

Not a pellet grill, It’s a Kamado Joe. 17.4 pound bird, 2.5 hours at 325°
