I'll be there.
I am flying in on Saturday, leaving on Wednesday. I'll be at Uno's on Saturday, around 5PM. Best pizza in the world, and I've eaten pizza all over the globe, including the weird stuff in Italy. Rest assured, the pizza at the original Uno's is NOT the same as the chain Uno's pizza. As one who grew up in Chicago, and drove a cab there for my four years of college, I was thinking about giving a tour of the city to AS buddies, but then decided that it would be too much of a hassle if it caught on with a good number of folks. To tell the truth, I haven't been back for over six years and I'm sure the great ethnic neighborhoods I loved as a kid have been further "yuppified" in that time, destroying the soul they once had. On my last trip I was grossed out to find trendy yuppy restaurants where Ma & Pa operations once stood, and unbelievably overpriced yuppy loft apartments in place of the very cool walk-ups that dominated the older neighborhoods. To add insult to injury, my old apartment's address, where I lived from 0-12 yrs., on the city's South Side, does not even exist anymore. Instead, they have taken this six-flat and given all of the units there the lower street number where once half were 7306 and the other half were 7308, my address. Weird. Do check out these attractions, if you have the time: Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry, Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Sears Tower Observation Deck (now called Willis Tower), a boat ride on the Chicago River, Morton Arboretum (where the climbing championship competition is going to be), Oak Street Beach, State Street, Michigan Avenue, Rush Street and any other attractions you read about that grab you. Chicago traffic is terrible, for the most part. You don't want to be in a hurry. The busses will cut you off repeatedly, they don't care. Other drivers will do the same. Cabs are expensive and busses are jam-packed a good deal of the time. You can have great fun in Chicago, but if you are not from a very large city, it takes some getting used to.
