grows from the decatur county courthouse in indiana. the show i watched says its like 135 years old. an aspen i think they said. they showed the guy go up to trim it. he used a wooden seat with a 2:1 mechanical advantage on some hemp rope, no ropegrab, no friction knot, let go and you die kind of thing.

Hoosiers are good folks to share a border with, but every once in a while ya see somethin' they have done or are doing, and ya just gotta wonder about 'em a bit.

This is one of them.

when i lived in minnesota, the word hoosier was a dirty word, kinda like hoser for a canadian

It looks to me like all they need to do is go up the stairs into the attic and do a little root pruning. No notches required!

Then send in the roofers to fix those leaks.

the show i watched said they left it there intentionally, some kind of 'miracle tree'. when guy was done trimming it, he handed out the trimmings to ppl watching, supposed to be good luck in hoosierville. they also said the roof is made of 200lb stones, cant wait til the tree dislodges one onto a passerby, guy is going to be dead or get seriously paid.

Wait...you are saying that calling a Canadian a hoser, is derogatory--who knew? I thought that was like calling an Ohioian a "buckeye", a Michigander a "wolverine", West Virginian a "hill-billy".

i suppose so. lots of words that people take pride in are considered derogatory by others. i'm proud to be a redneck but some ppl think its a dirty word. look at what the blacks call themselves, and all this time i thought it was a bad word! hillbilly is anothe one, people use it like redneck to describe an 'ignant' 'unejmacated' person
