I am looking at a coil on an old mini type Homelite chainsaw that lived its life as an ERICO grinder. Anywho i see the coil says SEM WALBRO and MEXICO (reverse side) and its mounted on a Homelite chainsaw. Is there a connection between all of these participants?

Walbro is a component mfg which makes parts for everything from chainsaws to diesel trucks and equipment. That coil was probably made in Mexico, either at a Walbro plant or at some other mfg establishment for Walbro in Mexico.

You can check out their current offerings at walbro.com, although I doubt they have much in the way of information for legacy products. You will probably have to take that coil to a small engine shop and see if they can match it up and order a new service part.

I'm not sure of the SEM designation on that coil. I would guess that Walbro had some exchange with a UK based company named SEM that deals with magnets and coils, etc. Other than that I couldn't guess.

SEM WALBRO HOMELITE MEXICO

Any other thoughts on this? Were these guys all together at a barbecue one day and decided to get together and put there names on this part?
