SenDec tach problems

I bought a Sendec tach a few days ago and I notice the display was on when I opened the box , I tried messing with the select button to turn it off but it doesnt . could someone verify if this is normal ? or do I need to send it back ? since this thing doesnt have a battery change option I am wondering if this is a good choice..

tr9 ,I've got the same tach and it does not shut off. Just bought mine a few days ago too. Cant say about this one but I had a similar tach [sealed case and no shut off] that lasted around 10 years before it quit. Might be possible to operate on them when they give up the ghost. Did you get a piece of plactic with yours? I think that is a new back for when you have to cut it up and replace the batteries.

The LCD display takes an extremely small amount of current to operate. It's kind of like a digital watch in that sense. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It should be fine for years.

will last for 15 years piece of plastic is,yes back replacement

I have one that the company sent me that apparently belonged to a dealer taht was bought out it looks pretty used and old never shuts off and seems to work fine.
