I'm finally going to pull the trigger on a saddle and its going to be the sequoia. The thing is I don't know if i should get the SRT or the traditional. I climb DRT but i was thinking of trying some suspenders with my saddle to help with the weight of large saws. So do i buy the SRT or go with the traditional Sequioa and try to fit some suspenders to it? Any info from you guys using suspenders on your saddles would be great.(what kind, where to buy)

Thanx alot

I had the ddrt saddle and found sometimes it pulled down to easily so went for the srt sequoia with shoulder straps, it actually fits me better as I can get it tighter and I haven't needed the straps yet

Im going through that right now, so far I am favoring the Sequoia SRT with the Chest Croll, but wish I could not keep that ascender on all the time, as it is sewn right in, so for me I am still trying to figure out the shoulder suspender option, but man that seat is freaking comfortable like no other batten seat. I have been on a Pinnacle for years!! been climbing for 29yrs and its time to try out the rope bridge style with fall rated suspenders and the ONLY TWO I know of are the Ergovation which I didnt like, or the Sequoia SRT with top croll suspenders. I will not need the ascender often but would like that as the option to quickly attach, so I am still searching and trying to find this solution out.

I went with a different Petzl saddle, the Avao sit-fast.

I got it with the optional (and detachable) top chest harness which can accept a Petzl Croll when desired versus the Top Croll Chest harness which has the Croll permanently sewn in.

I also have the Petzl Podium bosun seat for additional comfort during extended suspension periods.

I found I only use the chest harness when I'm working from a ladder. The chest harness does a good job of keeping my saw and other gear from pulling the saddle down while standing. Otherwise, the saddle alone holds the weight well when I'm suspended by a rope. I have climbed SRT both with and without the top chest harness, depending which SRT climbing system I'm using at the time. I always use the chest harness when using a Croll.

This is my second harness, and my first was a Buckingham tower harness. The Buckingham was great while I was a beginner ... was sturdy and provided a lot of confidence ... but it wasn't too long before its weight got a bit tiresome. The Avao is a very lightweight saddle, but is proving to be worthwhile to me. BTW, tree work is only a side job/hobby ffor me, so I'm not in the saddle multiple days at a time.

I have the sequoia srt with the top croll. I like it a lot, but I barely use the ascender. That said, I hang a 395xp/36"bar off it and it stays put.

Just wondering if you already have the solution to what I am trying to do, how come there isnt a choice in a catologue and can you tell and show how you are attaching the ascender to the chest croll with out it, so I can see. The carabiner on bottom doesnt look like it has room to put something else there too? So that would be helpful big time. I definitely know I will be using the chest suspenders all the time with the bosun seat on the sequoia SRT saddle, just now do I call petzl and order only the top chest croll with out the ascender attached but get the ascender seperate and again , how do you attach it then.
Looking at the options the other saddles have I would love to have a back ring for fall arrest and one on the front for sternal like it has, but they dont come with a dorsal ring for the back? wonder why. Thanks for the reply, I found it helpful that I am not the only one thinking this way!

You can download the Petzl catalog, but I don't recall if it showed all the options in one place. I put the pieces together based on info from three different sources ... Avao saddle, chest harness without a Croll, and the separate bosun seat.

I apologize, but I don't have any photos of my set up. The Avao saddle has a single center ring for life support in lieu of a rope bridge, and that is where I attach the Croll using a carabiner. The top end of the Croll is secured to the sternal ring of the chest harness using a small screw-link. The Podium bosun seat attaches to the same center ring on the saddle.

Thanks for your reply. The SRT Sequoia saddle has the center attachment for the suspenders. So I can use a delta link but its easier to use a biner. Either way I still cant see how I would hook up the ascender unles it is off center in same biner then find a way to attach top to sternal ring i guess. I also thought about just using a gibbs ascender and acheive the same thing. As I would only use it for a SRT ascend for a safety backbup instead of a prussic above the hand ascenders. This will make ascending much easier. Wish it also had a ring on back too.

When I use the Croll, it remains centered on the Avao's ring because it is the only weighted item attached. At the same time, a short lanyard (adjustable tether) conncects the Avao's center ring to my hand ascender, but it's purpose is to serve as a secondary safety attachment and doesn't become weighted ... just lays to one side.

I prefer the Sequoia SRT in combination with Petzl Secure und a Croll.
It's a light shoulder strap, which is easy to disconnect from saddle and also usable without croll...

I hear ya Medi, I saw that as an option but that heavy duty suspender set up will be SOO much more comfortable while aloft, so trying to incorporate the top chest harness with out the sewn in ascender but be able to put ascender on and off still, with the more comfortable set up.
