Anybody looking for shear knives like for a Hydro-Ax, I found a place that makes them out of AR400 steel. They made mine for$430 wich three different dealers wanted $1025 to $3000. Let me know if anybody needs info or number.

Is this it?

The front one looks kinda like it just much smaller. What are you doing with the saw head behind it?

Oh, it's not mine... I pulled it from the web.

I wish I could go logging again--I could buy a slide boom cheap right now. All our mills are shut down, some permanently, some for a few months. I could go harvest it, and have nowhere to sell it.

They bolt on just like the shear head in the pics you sent. My knives are 24''X8.5"X7/8. Is that your saw head?

Yeah i need to read better......I have ADD to the tenth power!!!!

The worst part is the piece of AR400 was a whole 127 bucks the rest is in machining the 6 sloted 1inch holes and cutting the double edged knife.

That's custom fab for you... A rule of thumb is labor will be 60% more than materials cost.

That's why it's nice to have welding and cutting equipment... Also, a supplier like CDA in Spokane will punch all that stuff, or CNC torch it for you--and the cost isn't bad. That way it comes to your door with most of it already done.

Being in New York state, I imagine you're logging hardwoods? That's gotta be way harder on equipment and cutting surfaces than softwoods.

Yeah lucky me I get to smash it all into pulpwood because thats the only thing moving....

Something needs to be done... All this really nice merchantable timber, and it's essentially being used like garbage wood.
