I've posted this question before but it was probably too new for many to have used it. What do you guys think of the three diff. Sherrill ropes? How do they compare to Blue Streak and Safety Blue? The two yellow ropes have a comparatively low strength rating which I take into account when downgrading into rigging lines. How do the ropes feel compare to BS and SB? Wear, knotability? Any opinions before I buy would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve Bradley.

i really like the Pro-stripe and especially Yellow Jacket; i prefer his visibility lines of color so haven't tried Pro-spec. Some of the guys seem to have found Yellow Jacket to be a lil'skinny and slippery; i seemed to not notice after a day or so of wear.

BluSt. is supposedly made for foot locking, and i don't really do that, so can't weigh that in.

i try to look at 10:1 safety factors, on a 6k line that gives me 600# of load before bending that safety rule. i try to eliminate shock loading, unless i can use that force to perform a needed task. Generally, i feel like i grab a 5/8 line or put another leg of support line on the load (either physically a seperate line, or a pulley on the load to apply 2 legs of support from the same line and have more pretightening at the same time) as i approach 600# of load, actually look to do that around 3-500# class, so the extra capacity of the lines becomes marginal, though the confidence is nice. i beleive that 8:1 is more of a standard elsewhere, (some say 4:1!, but not i on synthetic, overhead control say i!!), So even with that i feel that with my 'system' i have ~175# of forgiveness in there on that point.

never used the sherril rope....

i've been climbing on the blue streak and
i love it. it handles great. i've been using a
120' hank and have been leaving a bunch
of it on the ground. so i ended up getting
a 50' hank of high vee off of e-bay for 20
bucks and have been using it all week!!
nice stuff, just like the blue streak. only
problem is that it's a little short. i think that
a 75' line w/ a eye spliced i one end would
be perfect!!!!!
you'd be happy w/ either the blue streak or
the high vee imho.
budroe:cool:

I think Hi-Vee is blue streak, just a little weaker due to the dyes.

I was one of the people that had problems with the Yellow Jacket, I could not maintain a decent lock with my feet. Burned out a pair of expensive boots trying.

Maybe it is my weight?

I have regular SB, BS, XTC and their colored incarnations. I don't notice much differance. The YJ is the first climbing line I've used that I was disapointed with.

I do not like arborplex, tru blue or any of the coreless ropes. square rope feels funny to me.

Hi-Vee is Safety Blue (all white with blue core) with orange striping. Made by New England ropes. Tensile strengths of 7000# and 7700#.

Blue Streak is blue and white, made by Samson. Tensile strength of 8100#.

For someone looking for an inexpensive rope, I think Safety Blue is a better bet. If you like having lots of different colors and don't need 7000#+ tensile strength, try the Sherrill rope.

Yup. I'll be gald when they get rid of all those bluee names, I just remember which is true blue because it sucks.

SWL of 500, 600 or 700, no big differance to me, I just like the color coding of ropes. I was on the Hi Vee climbing line again and kept confusing it for my flip line . Gotta break down and get some smaller DIA static for my flip line.

The only problem with Tenex is the problem some climbers have distinguishing between compression and glazing.
