Count me in as a Shindaiwa fan

Do what? Had they promised to get you one by now?

I first read about them here. They are on the web site and in the new product guide. Just stopped by the dealer to see when I could lay my hands on one expecting to be told soon but answer was "fall" maybe, according to his Shin rep.

Impatiently waiting in Ohio

Maybe it'll be worth the wait

I still haven't checked with my dealer. I had them on the phone yesterday but forgot to ask.

Well you can mark me a fan also, I have more Stihls now but I think Shindaiwa makes some great saws. I had a 575 and still have 2 350's, my brother has a 757. I gave up on them because it is so hard to get any dealer support. I don't blame them for not selling the saws on-line but parts should be available. They will never gain any market share without a real dealer network.

Backordered!!!

I stopped at the local dealer this morning and asked about the 490. He says he put in an order for one, but it is on back order. Sounds like they are selling them faster than they are making them.

The 490 is supposed to be available here next month or so. It's a redesigned 488, with the main features being new controls and an smoother design. Same engine as the 488. Nice saw.

Well, has anyone seen one yet? Used one? Just kind of curious how they compare to a 488? I like my old 500 just fine, and don't really use it as much as I like to. Truthfully I won't be buying any saws smaller than 80ish cc's.

If a person were to only have one saw, a 50cc class would be ideal as they are pretty versatile.

I think the ideal firewood combo is a 60cc and 80cc machine. Seems as if these sizes are the breaking points where power-to-weight ratios are optimized. Jump up any larger and a few extra cc's will cost you a few pounds.

I am really interested in seeing what Shindaiwa's 577 replacement (rumored to be out in 08/09) has to offer?
