I have a like new Shindiawa 488 saw for sale. It outcuts the Stihl pro 260. It is the same size saw. I have used it for less than 2 hrs. The thing rips in the wood. I have to many saws and need to put some money back in my pocket from the MS460 I just bought. I want $300 plus Shipping for it. It comes with a 18" pro oregon bar. This saw is a great. Anyone who has used Shindiawa saws knows there build quality. I own all Stihls but can honestly say this saw is built better than any of the others I own. If I didn't need the Bling-Bling I would not be selling it!:(

WOW!
No one interested? Must be no one is familiar with the shindiawa saws. Thought I would get a bite.

comparing a 488 to a 026 might have blown it for you,488s are like a cheap car

488's like Cheap Car

Aussie,

Where do you get your knowledge of the Shindawia Saw line let alone Shindawia's reputation for outstanding QUALITY? These saws are without a doubt WORLDCLASS. They may not be sold at every store, on every corner, in every neighborhood, but, that hardly makes them the Yugo of Chainsaws. Cheap car/Cheap Saw.......Hardly.

Maybe you can give some hard facts that support the fact that Shindawia makes a "cheap" saw.

I actually own both the 026 and 488 and the 488 is a much better built piece of equipment.

But you know the ole saying. Opinions are like A$$holes. Everyone has one.

Shindaiwa

I have used a Shindaiwa saw and was impressed but most of the cutting that I do is with a grafting knife. I have been using a Shindaiwa B45 brush cutter for about 17 yrs. and I wouldn't want anything else. It looks like it may last forever. I have been using Opti-2 with it for about 15 yrs. I wonder how Shindaiwa compares with SOLO. The saw I was using was my landlord's. He told me it was a Husky copy.

i have a shin blower but thats about it,my knowledge of shindiawa products up till 2000 is pretty good considering the co i worked for had a advertising agreement with them and ran there peices of trash day in day out,ill give em this much they can take a beating and eventually blow but it does take alot of work, anyone saying there equal or similar to a 026 hasnt done much cutting,i guess they dont sell many saws because there so good:rolleyes: i climbed with 488s for six years,i wasnt saying there a yugo thats too cheap :D

Aussie,
I thought you were better than that! That was a weak comment about not doing much cutting if I felt the 488 was better than the 260. Didn't someone teach you not to throw sand in the sandbox? I can say without a doubt that the 488 is a better saw than the stihl 260, in my opinion. I own both. Shindiawa has better build quality and doesn't put plastic where metal belongs unlike the others. I own my own landscaping company and run Stihl and Shindiawa equiptment. The Shindiawa stuff is a brick SH&% house and is very reliable. My Stihl stuff works well to. I think you may be a little to brand loyal or something. You would be hard pressed to find anyone with a good knowledge base of saws that would back you up. Especially anyone who has used the 488. I know you said you used it for a few years climbing. You must of had a bad saw. The shindiawa saws are very popular in europe and in the midwest of the US. Shindiawa will not sellout and compromise there bigger saws to make the US EPA happy. That is why there are only a few of them out in the states(five or six modles). To many people are afraid to come home with something that there buddy does not have. Amazing how the Stihl and Husky thing works. Only the strong can be different I guess!:p

1 bad saw they had at least 50 -488s after 3 years or so there wasnt alot left .IMO there a good throw away item.mufflers on 757s are another subject.i think the co i worked for liked the parts being odd for employees home saws:p

488 a throw away saw?

Really? Is that why this entire saw was designed to last through four re-ring jobs. I dont think so. What was it that wore out on these saws, Aussie? Was it the saws fault or were they poorly maintained or used incorrectly? I know several tree companies and ROW workers that swear by the 488. It has had an excellent reliability record for many years. I would not trade mine for 2 026's. Not saying that the stihl is a bad saw but looking carefully at both models the 488 is definately more robust in the build details.

You got it! Aussie is delerious!!! Must be from living on an island. I don't think he is able to see the light. Oh well, you can't save them all.

What type of maintanace was being done on these units? How were they being worked? My guess is that if your company purchased that many saws and than thay many problems. 1.) they should have contact the selling dealer that made the money on 50 plus saw to discuss the situation. 2.) Contact the distributor if the dealer was no help. 3.) Contacted Shindawia directly. If the failure of these units resulted from design or manufacturing flaws. I am sure the manufacture would love to get a look at 50 saws run that all had problems..

Something is aint dingdong right here boy. Maybe you should rethink your story and start over. Sounds to me like they units were run without maintanace into the junk pile.

actually your completely correct they were ran into the trash heap, with some maintenance depending on operator.this thread is about offload sorry sell one

Nobody willing to take a chance huh?

This saw is way under recognized for it`s durability, low vibes, and lightweight. They are great little saws, although I`ve never seen one outcut an 026, just the same, they are no slouch.
