Hi Guys,
The previous owner of my property left behind a Shindawa 488 saw and I couldn't bring myself to trash it. I put a carb kit in it a few days ago, and went to flush some debris from the fuel tank tonight, and noticed that when not held straight up and down, fuel leaks out of a hole that is a part of the top fuel tank casing (see images and green arrow).
This hole looks like it was machined into the plastic from the manufacturer, but perhaps not? Anyway, I shined a flashlight into the fuel tank, and could see light coming up through this hole where the fuel was leaking. Part of me was suspecting that this is where some sort of vent hose was run at some point, and is just missing.
So question to you all is, any idea what this hole is/was for? And depending on that answer, any issues if I use some JB tank weld putty to seal it up if it's not a functional part of the fuel tank?
