I have an MS260, about a year old but essentially new, with the fixed high jet carb.

And I also have an adjustable carb which I was going to retrofit, but now I am thinking....why not just send this thing off to a pro for some real performance mods?

Does this make sense? How feasible/potentially beneficial are mods to the 260? I recall hearing that the cylinder doesn't have much material to work with.

What are your thoughts?

Yep pack it ship it to one of the saw gurus here and have em build you a REAL mean machine, hey then you may never have to start your saw at all, the tree will just see you comin cut itself down buck itself up and then load itself right up on the back of your truck hehehe.

u know what i just mite break down an do that with mine. if it ll make that much difference.then id keep the 026 the 372 an my little echo an sell the rest...
what about it dan can u really make this thing a good bit better. im serious..
the back,an shoulders, aint gonna get any younger so
im gonna have to face that.. let me know somethin brother. im not holding u to the money we talked about a long time ago ,,as i know u services are at a premium now. by the way this is the 026 with adjustable carb an all.

Hi Sylvatica,

You`ll appreciate the gains that you get from having the 260 modified. Quite a few have been done, you will see a huge improvement over the way that your saw performs now although the consensus seems to be that a similarly modifed 346 will outcut it. Sorry to throw that stink bomb in there but just want you to be aware of this.

My "professionally" modified 260 was done by Dennis Greffard, as was Ben Walker`s. Both seem to run strong.

Dozer Dan has done a boatload also and I`ve no doubt that his product is equally as good, maybe better. EHP and Ken Dunn would also be top builders to consider.

Walker`s will do one for you but they flat out told me that I would be much happier with the 346.

At any rate, a modifed 260 is a handy saw to have and you`ll probably find your self using an awful lot.

Hi i have built a couple ms260's now and they are fast but to be honest they are not as fast as the ported 346's. The 346 has alot bigger carb than the 260 so i am putting on a bigger carb and we will see if that helps me get that .2 i need to run with the 346, if it does i will tell you

Thanks guys. I think I'll have the 260 tweaked. Why the heck not. Might be fun. A saw can't be too strong or too light.

I have a few 346's (only w/ muffler mods) and even in stock condition, I love them. Yes, I am aware that the 346 has more potential, but since I already have an otherwise slightly boring 260 here as well, I'd like to maximize it.

This modded saw scene is new territory for me. I hope it isn't addictive. :D

Is this where I am supposed to just say "no!", run away and tell an adult?

:D

well ive heard this mysterious pair mentioned several times..sounds like they
had some aces ,,which in gambling terms is called coming in the game [whatever]
with a little,, unknown to evrybody else edge...thats common with sharks of any game... anybody lose any money toim..
ah,, forget i ask that question. lets just move along... the key to goin into a strange town to hustle the local shark ..
is to do it in a manner that, u get outa town alive..:) sounds like they knew what they was doing.

The 024's they had were as close to stock as any car in the Winston Cup. I am not taking a thing away from them, I'd like my 026 to run like that. Those saws are works of art.

Hi
Those little 026s will come alive when ported and there is plenty of metal to work with on those barrels.
No they wont turn the rpm that a ported 346 will with the stock carb but they will produce more torque.
To give you some idea of how many rpms that you can run a 346 at. This weekend if front of many people we held a tach on a PP346. That particular saw just had a woods mod with a pipe added. It held 15600 in the cut. I don't know how many it turned out of the cut, I wasn't brave enough to check it.

I would have said the same thing prior to having Jokers Walkerized 346. When ran back to back with my Grefferdized 026 the o26 is slightly faster, but the 346 is much easier to operate and has more "stump power". I know this is hard to believe when the 346 revs like it does, but from my testing I have found it to be true. BTW besides being slightly slower than my 026 I would buy a 346 if I where in the market today. The saw feels much faster and is way less finicky when it comes to atmospheric changes and operator input.

I like the 026cc that I ported. It will run with an 036 saw and is less weight. Now for the 026cc that sthiltech has is a different animal. I'm still finding power in that little saw and have a few more ideas on how to make it eat more fuel. Then sooner or later it will need a pipe. Oh and by the way.... The carb has a fixed jet that has been drilled to perfection... At Dan's those two saws (026cc and 024 super) where as close as you could get for modded saws.
