What hand saw do you guys prefer to use when pruning shrubs? I had bought a Super Accel a couple of years ago thinking it might be Ok for working with shrubs. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as I hoped it would. Any suggestions?

Bypass pruners, Small Fiskars geared loppers and a Gomtaro handsaw. Psst .... Don't tell but I use my climbing chainsaw on overgrown lilacs too.;)

I've got the Felco's which don't leave my side when doing shrub work. However, I don't like to use loppers on shrubs because if I buy a good pair, it is guaranteed that they won't last very long and therefore make very bad cuts. I've used a Gomtaro and the Super Accel for making cuts on shrubs, my problem with them is that the cuts come out very rough. I was thinking something more towards a hack saw because of the very fine teeth.

If you want fine teeth then Silky does make such. If you get a good set of loppers then you won't have many saw cuts and they will be on big enough wood that the cuts won't seem too rough. The Fiskars loppers are less than $20 bucks and are superb.-I've done several hundred apple trees & dozens of shrubs with one set. They still work great but half the Teflon coating is gone.-I do resharpen them frequently.

These work fantastic, there made my a guy down the road from. the handles are about 4 feet long and you just swing them.

let me know if ya want his #.......there kind of pricey though.

loppers are basic equipment for shrub work. i've got both bahco (formerly sandvik) p16 and felco f21. they are both excellent, comparably priced tools. the felco gives a slightly better cut, but with a greater tendency to "spit out" larger material. if you've got good hand strength the felco13 hand pruners have long handles, for doubling up on the 1" and greater stuff.

anyone seen the new felco 19? sprays a shot of disinfectant with every cut. i kid you not.

Ken, what do you use those for exactly, and how much do they cost? They look like they would be perfect for going into an area with lots of vines and mess.

couple sets of Corona loppers, Felco 2, Felco 4, and of course the Silky gang is available.

silky zubat, corona loppers, felco4 bypass.
dont care for the anvil loppers too much, tend to smach the plant tissue.

Wow, and I thought this was another president-bashing thread.

Felco 2's for the small stuff, Zubat on the bigger stuff. Loppers? HAH!
