Have this day proposed to Sherrill tree that an unbiased objective field test(between the sidekick and the re-treever) be conducted by TSI magazine and the results published therein. hopefully this will result in more usefull information being available to arborists in their selection of appropriate tree gear. Will keep you all posted as per developments.

I actually performed such a comparison a year ago and published it on a couple of tree forums. Of course there is absolutely no harm in further comparisons being made. I own and use both. I find the Sidekick more versatile-The Retreever has good points but sucks for rope placement--the flexihook won't lift and push very well. Both products would be largely replaced on my saddle if a GOOD lightweight collapsible polesaw with a shielded folding blade and small hook were available.-Get that polesaw under 4 pounds an less that 3 feet long in its collapsed position and I'd carry it on most climbs.
