What is the main difference between this grinder and the simington 451C?
In all honesty they are nearly identical. The 451 is just a modern version of my Silvey.
I thought they were essentially the same. I gotta be honest...if they are the same, the simington brand new goes for $1,000 at Bailey’s. I think at this price point it will be tough to generate a lot of interest. The grinder is in excellent shape but it’s hard to pay more than a new simington.

Why do we buy vintage chainsaws when they do the same thing as new ones? To each there own. Some people might prefer to own a silvey. If you don’t like someone’s price just keep on moving.

true. I have a 1968 f-100 I am asking 28k for it. Why would anyone buy a new 2018 f-150 for 35k when they can own this beauty? moving on !
I understand that, but there is a story behind this grinder,
If you look up the history of this model you'll find that silvey originally came out with the design but then sold it and then down the road produced it anyways. This did not sit well with simington and they sued silvey for patent infringement. So this Silvey is technically a silvey manufactured grinder and that's what I'm selling it as. I don't know if these Silvey/Simington grinders are rare, but to me the story is pretty interesting. Almost all the Silvey pictures I see of the Silvey Swing Arm online are the different modern grinder without the Dayton motor. I figure this Silvey got out and sold before the lawsuit happened. Call me a nerd but I think the History of it is pretty cool.

But do you go out and pay more than the price of a new modern saw for a vintage saw? Nostalgia is one thing, and a cool story is cool too, but a used item from a company no longer in business, selling for more than a brand new one of the exact same design is a little much. I think cole was just giving some info for buyers who may not be familiar.
