I PUT ON A 750 S.F. ADDITION @ THE END OF MY RANCH STYLE HOUSE.PROBLEM IS I CANT GET THE HEAT FROM MY INSERT THROUGH A 34X80 DOORWAY,AND THE CONNECTING WALL IS BRICK.THE TEMP DIFF. ON THE ADDITION CEILING IS @ 74 AND JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE IT IS 81 DEGREES.COULD I ,OR RATHER SHOULD I TRY TO CUT A HOLE IN THE HALLWAY AND PUT IN A 12" INLINE DUCTFAN INDUCER,AND CONNECT IT TO THE RETURN IN THE CEILING OF THE ADDITION? ITS ABOUT A 15 FT.RUN OF FLEX LINE REDUCED TO 10"@ THE RETURN.I AM AFFRAID IT WILL LOSE ALOT OF ITS TEMP BEING THAT IT IS IN A CEILING CRAWLSPACE,AND WILL HAVE TO PATCH IT BACK UP.I TRIED IT WITH THE RETURN IN THE FIREPLACE ROOM,AND IT MADE NO DIFF,AS I ALREADY HAD A RETURN GRILL IN THERE ALSO,BUT THAT WAS ABOUT A 100' RUN.ANYONE TRIED THIS?ELEC B.B. HEAT FOR A SUPLEMENT IS KILLING ME,NOT JUST THE $$,BUT THE AGGRIVATION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GITERDUN.:censored: HELP IF YOU CAN.

If I read right your return was on the ceiling ? The floor is the best place for a cols air return, it draws the cold air out and pulls warm air to that area. You are going to have a hard time getting warm air into a room if the cold air has nowhere to go.

Not

NOT USING IT AS A RETURN,BUT A SUPPLY.AM COMING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE HOUSE TO THE ADDITION,AND WAS CONTINPLATING JUST GITTIN SOME OF THAT WARMER CIELING AIR TO THE EXISTING RETURN ON THE CIELING IN THE ADDITION,AND CAPPING THAT RETURN OFF OF THE FURNACE PLENUM.WAS THAT POST CONFUSING,AND F SO I WILL TRY AGAIN

That makes better sense but the way I read it , it could have gone either way.

Getting the heat to move that far from the insert effectively isn't going to be easy without some losses.

Getting it to go down that long hallway wont help either.

Can you reroute the original cold air return to draw from the ceiling of the room with the wood heater and just run the fan on continous to move cold air from the far end of the house ?

Or a duct fan, on a switch, near the floor at the far end of the hall to pull cold air from the furthest point from the fire and push that through the attic back to the main room.

I don't see an easy (inexpensive or non-labor intensive) way of doing it otherwise.

My folks have this trouble in their home. When burning, the warm air doesn't get past the doorway in the hall leading to the bedrooms. The main room, kitchen and dining rooms are toasty while the bedrooms aren't.

If you decide to move air through the attic be sure the duct is insulated so it isn't losing heat to the unused attic.

I HOOKED UP AN EXISTING RETURN IN THE HALL,THEN HOOKED THAT UP TO THE CIELING RETURN IN THE BEDROOM........INLINE 12" DUCTFAN ,AND ITS PUTTING OUT 80.3 DEGREES FROM THE B.R. RETURN.....WAITIN TO SEE IF I DID ANY HELP,OR HARM.I CAPPED OFF THE TWO RETURN SUPPIES FROM THE PLENUM,AND I SHURE THE ONE REMAINING 12X12 RETURN AND THE 4X12 RETURNS WILL BE O.K. TILL I SEE IF THIS DEAL WORKS OUT.....THANKZ ILL LET YOU KNOW IN A COUPLE DAYS OR SOONER IF IT GOES:dizzy:

Will Do

Put a small fan on the floor and push the cold air towards the heat source. works here for us.

Shari
NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT.....SEEMS TO BE MY BIGGIST PAIN,AND THAT THE HEAT IS COMMING OFF THE CIELING........A REAL BUNCH OF TRIAL AND ERROR IN THIS GAME ISNT THERE!:censored:
