I would like to get some opinions on good stump grinders to use with a skid steer. The machine is a Bobcat S630 with high flow. (74HP, 30GPM)

Stump grinder

I had a CAT sg 16B grinder in front of my john deere 240 skid steer last year It was ok for smaller stumps but It really sucked on big stumps. It seemed to have problems bouncing and when It would bounce the boom would settle and It would jam up the cuting head. Im so glad its gone. I despised grinding stumps with this thing. I dont know if I had a piece of junk or If because the GPM flow was mis matched? I bought a tow behind and it SMOKES that grinder I had but it is a little less convienent at times. At my day job for the city they bought a grinder for their S 590 and it works a ton better than the cat I had. But its still not as efficent as a dedicated stump grinding machine. Thats just my opinion I am no pro by any means.

The skid mounted grinders that I have seen all suck and they are stoooopid expensive. Tow behinds are monsters, but unrealistic for a small service that caters to residential clientele. For the same money go buy a nice used stand alone.

Ok good I'm not the only one that doesn't like them ha ha! It seemed like a great Idea that I wouldn't have to have another separate machine to maintain. I would have purchased self propelled unit but Its my third year in business and the cash wasn't there and still isn't but I get by somehow. I have started from nothing and I don't like payments so everything is paid for maybe a different self propelled higher horsepowered grinder will be on the schedule some day.

This will be intended for personal use, at least at first. Still in the early stages of deciding whether or not to go full bore on some type of tree service. Big thing is, just can't see the point in buying another power unit. At first I was looking at a Quick-Attach machine but am now leaning toward one made by Skid Steer Solutions. Anybody on here have experience with either one?

I totally agree that for what you are getting they sure seem overpriced.
