I Have one of those oregon/generic stump vices only problem is every time i beat it into a stump/log it seems to work loose before im even halfway around a 15" b+c. Is there anyway around this? Should i be using something else? what does everyone else use?

Make a cut in the top of the stump first and pound the vise into the kerf left from the cut, should help to hold the vise a little better.

Sounds like a good idea, but I don't use stump vices - easy enough to hold the saw against a fallen log, or something like that........:D :D

I've seen someone who used a hacksaw to make a couple of angled cuts about a quarter of an inch deep into the outsides of each of the points. The cuts make the points look like they have shallow barbs. I'd suggest you practice on a piece of steel to make sure the cuts and angles are such that you can remove the steel before you cut into your vice.

I have a Stihl vise, and the same problem.
