I have a 1996 Ford 800 series with an altec an336 lift. Just yesterday while up in the bucket I noticed that the area of the pedestal , where the lower boom attatches to the pedeastal. Its the round part with like 10 or more bolts. (rotation bearing, maybe?) Anyway, I noticed that the lift has some play in it, that I had not noticed in the past. I came down and operated the lift from the platform and at the overcenter point , I noticed about 1/4'' play , up and down(between the front and back of the rotation bearing) Is this acceptable? This play transferred to the top of the bucket , was more like 2 inches , a little scary feeling.

Sounds like it is worn out .I hate to tell you what that repair cost. High Ranger?

I replaced one in my AA 600 Altec. Took about eight or ten hours with the help of a friend. The bearing alone was $3,300 ouch! But the shop figured about 8 to 10 grand out the door. The bolts suck to get out since its so tight and they are installed with sleeve retaining compound.

Not cheap. Just had one done at work. And since they were that far into it might as well see how much more they could replace. Wish I knew the breakdown of the bill. I just know the total was 22K and some change. I know that they repacked cylinders, replaced all hydraulic lines, replaced leveling chains, recoated boom, and rebuilt the pistol grip

I was wondering hours on the meters? Tb: looks like your boss values people n equipment... Good thing!

I'll check the hours. The table bearing was caught by a service guy who came to do a recall on the boom. We knew that things were getting to the point that work would need done. Terex has specs on all of the boom stuff. At the prior inspection most were in tolerance but would need attention. We popped a line inside of the boom a few years ago that cost us 1500 because of the time it took to locate and replace. That's why we did them all at once. Should be good for five to seven before popping another one
