Depends.. Migth be slow because there's alot of wood down, but migth be pretty good due to the cost increase in energy!

But think of it this way, all that wood blown down is green! There has got to be a good market for good seasoned wood, even when there is a ton of green stuff piled up.
Heres hoping for you anyway!

Surprising too me that it's slow? We do tree length by weight and were sold through the year back in June (gaurentee for this years delivery). Ours comes out too about $120 a cord and have a 3 cord minimum. It's almost always 95% or better maple. All the people I know in the bizz (especially the cut/split guys are working on next years orders also.

Score!
On a personal level, a guy who bought 25 acres on a ridge across the road from me had a crew come in a clear it out. He left a pile of maple and anothert skid of white birch. His Father and Grandad were up there a couple months ago and they cut and took all the maple and some of the birch and then left it sit there. I saw the guy a few days ago and asked what he was doing with the birch pile? Looks like 2-3 cord left there. He asked me if I had $100, I said I did and now it's my birch pile. What's nice is that it's right across the street maybe 1/8 mile from me:clap:

With the drop in gas prices recently, wood has slowed some here. Gas here is currently $3.29 a gal and diesel is between $3.69 and $3.99. It dropped nearly a dollar on both counts since late Summer. Alot of guys jumped on the wagon selling wood cheaper than last year here. At under $150 a cord I will sit on mine and keep bringing it in till they have run out. I like cutting the wood but the value of it to me is more than what it is bringing. I count on selling some before Christmas and by that time I'm in hopes that all the under priced wood is gone.

Our storms here were in June and July. Nobody kept much of it and what is getting sold now looks like it is still to green to be considered 'seasoned'. If it doesn't sell this year It isn't costing me much to keep it coverd so it will still be there next year. It might be in the way all year but I don't have to feed it to keep it.

I see prices of $180.00 - $200.00 in Allentown (East Pa.)

I do not sell wood, I burn it. Too much work w/ out a tractor and firewood mach.

LT...

Yeah I'm with you on this one. This Ike wood won't be ready to burn till maybe March at the best. But I have a feeling there will be a lot of green wood sold this year as seasoned, to people who know no better.:( :( :( :givebeer: :givebeer:

Demand very strong in this area. Green log length selling for 140-175 per cord.
Seasoned cut and split 300-425. One guy in town (Oshawa, On) selling 12" 1/4 cords for 195.00 delivered and people are buying - no kidding.

BD57 - Wow, those are some prices - :jawdrop: I'd think up there in the 'great white north' there'd be more trees than people? Not the case though? Down here, talking to people, I don't see the near panic that there was back in July when oil hit 147.00 and there was talk of 5.00 fuel oil. It's in the upper 3's now, which is bad enough.

The problem here is that most of the trees are at lest an hour or two away from the city. Most of my logs are trucked at least 100 miles or more.

For what its worth, the high fuel prices earlier this summer put a crimp on the beer money guys, so wood is selling pretty good here. I havent run an ad yet, but have had several calls from last years customers that kept my add on the fridge. This is not including my regular customers.
The only gripe that I have about the whole deal is people are a little more broke this year due to high fuel, grocery, and utility prices, so i am seeing a lot of folks that give me a hard time about the increase in wood prices. I was getting 50 bucks a rick last year and increased it to 60 for this year. They try and appeal to the "Im on a fixed income" line of BS, but unless I see that they are really hurting then I dont cut them any slack. Even then, not much of a deal, way to early in the year to give any discounts.
