There are a bunch of small black ants on a friends tree ~ 15' tall (not sure what type of tree) in new development and they asked what they can put on the tree to kill the ants. Is the Ortho or Bayer T&S stuff at our local Home Depot or Lowes any good? If not, what do you recommend?

Find out why the ants are there...they are usually after something, like aphids or scale or setting up a home in a decay pocket. If you don't deal with cause, then targeting the ants is of little value

When there are ants in palms that I am trimming, I use a liquid soap solution in a 1 quart spray bottle to kill them. That doesn't get rid of them permanently, but it does stop them immediately so I don't get them all over me.

Good call, I didn't see any aphids or scale, but you are correct, there were a lot of decaying pockets on the crotches. Too many to prune & correct. What now?

Post some pictures, too many variables to say anything solid from what you have posted.

"I have a squeak in my stairs, how can I fix it? It makes the noise whenever i step on it?
